Walking into your bathroom and realizing that your shower curtain is dirty and dotted with mildew can take away the excitement of taking a bath. You might even be tempted to throw it away and buy a new curtain. Fortunately, you do not have to get rid of anything because you can clean your bathroom curtain and continue using it. Here are ways to clean your shower curtain:
Remove the curtain and liner from the rod
You cannot thoroughly clean your shower curtain while it is still hanging on the curtain rod. Therefore, you must remove the curtain and the liner from the curtain rod.
Put the curtain and liner in the washer along with two white towels
Most shower curtains can be washed using the washing machine. Just toss the curtain and the liner in the washing machine and include two white towels in the machine as well. The two towels are included to enable the machine do a thorough work.
Add regular detergent and half a cup of baking soda
To ensure that your curtains are cleaned properly, you should add detergent just like any other normal cleaning procedure. Then add ½ cup of baking soda. Baking soda weakens and breaks the mildew and other stubborn stains as well as removes the bad smell from the curtains.
Wash in warm water
You should use warm water to clean your bathroom curtains because warm water enhances the performance of the detergent, fastens the breaking down of stubborn stains, mildew and makes it easier to clean the curtains.
Add ½ cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle
White vinegar is known for its powerful cleaning properties and using it to clean your bathroom curtains ensures that the ugly mildew and other stains are completely removed. It also ensures that your curtain maintains its original color.
Hang to dry
After cleaning the curtains, it is time to dry them. You can put the curtain and the liner in the dryer and set the lowest temperature setting for about ten minutes. Remove the curtain and the liner and hag them to dry. Do not hang them in direct sunlight. Since the curtain is made of light material, hanging it in under the shade is recommended.
The next time you notice that your shower curtain is dirty and looks unpleasant, simply remove it and clean it. You can hand wash it or use the washing machine to clean it. The hand wash process is similar to the machine wash. You will need warm water, detergent white vinegar, and baking soda.
